Rules of feeding EasyHard

7

Introduce changes of food gradually

  • The horse produces enzymes that break down certain types of feed but he also relies on a population of bacteria and other micro organisms to digest other types of feed, particularly fibre.
  • Different micro organisms are needed to digest different feeds and so a sudden change to the diet can mean that the right micro organisms aren’t present in the digestive tract to digest food properly.
  • A sudden change of diet can therefore compromise digestion and may result in colic.
